I disagree that he doesn't accurately describe Puritan times, especially because of the veritable religious issue that was at the core of their religion. That is, how do you deal with crimes? If humans are essentially evil, how do you tame the human spirit and correct it? Clearly that's what they were struggling with those questions and the accurately covers them...
