Positives and negatives of working with special needs children?

i'm applying to volunteer at several special needs schools and hope to work with special needs children in the future, when i say specail needs i speak generally, children with down syndrome, aspergers, dyslexia as well as physical disabilites. Has anyone had experience and could tell me the good and bad and give me some advice?
