Single grain rice cereal vs. whole grain rice cereal?

my son has been on rice cereal (single grain) for 2 months now and does great with it. do you think he would be ready to move to whole grain rice cereal? The gerber website really does not put it into one of their categories (1st foods, 2nd foods....)
