Slightly awkward question ..?

It shouldn't hurt a lot with just one finger. You might have an extra bit of skin covering the (I forgotten what it's called now) but basically it covers more of it. If not, it may have just been because you were worried and tensing up? When you tense, you can, whether you notice or not, clench the muscles inside so it makes it quite small inside! You said you were wet, which is good, but make your man really turn you on so you're really relaxed and ready. Have fun! :P
